A relatively newer route, replaced by the Tier 1 Exceptional talent visa, the Global Talent Visa, has become one of the popular visas of 2021. For a simple reason, that it has many benefits over other visas and moreover it directly leads to settlement and British citizenship.
The application process for a Global talent visa is divided into two stages
Stage 1- Endorsement stage
Stage 2- Application stage
Check whether you are eligible for a Global talent visa or not
There are two broad categories of ‘talent’ for a Global talent visa application.
- You need to be either an emerging leader or promising talent in a specified field
- Or You are an exceptional talent or leader in a specified field
The fields are:
- Science
- Humanities
- Arts & Culture
- Film and Television
- Fashion designing
- Architecture
- Engineering
- Research
- Digital technology
You could be a Technology candidate or a Business candidate for any of the above fields.
The candidate should get his/her application first reviewed by any one of the six endorsing bodies authorised by the Home Office.
- The Royal Academy of Engineering – for engineering applications
- The Royal Society – for science and medicine applications
- The British Academy – for humanities applications
- Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) – for architecture applications
- Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television (PACT) – for film and television applications
- Tech Nation – for digital technology applications
- Arts Council England – for arts and culture applications
- UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) – for research related applications
- British Fashion Council – for fashion designing
What are the documents that I need to send in?
Once the applicants are successfully reviewed by their respective endorsing body then they can move to the stage-2 of the application process.
There are three important steps towards initiating the application
- You would have been through the application endorsement stage and have been reviewed successfully
- Your application for a Global Talent visa must be submitted at least 3 months before your travel to the UK.
- The endorsing bodies have not withdrawn your application.
If you meet all the three, then the Home Office will accept your application for a Global Talent visa.
There are a total of 10 pieces of evidence you need to provide.
Most importantly are, your passport with blank pages and tuberculosis test, if applicable in your country of residence.
Switch the visa and settlement route
The Global talent visa allows you to switch your visa to another category. Global talent visa is granted initially for upto 5 years and further extendable. It can directly lead to settlement after 5 years and British citizenship after 6 years, if you continue to be eligible for it.
£608 is a chargeable fee for the Global Talent Visa application.
Endorsement costs you £456 and visa application costs you £152.
